Ahhh, the boys...

I was shopping this afternoon with O and Em and we were in the checkout lane when this very old man noticed my pretty little girl all dressed up in a fancy dress, wearing mama's jewelry and he stopped to say, "Look out! In a few years you're going to have to shovel the boys off of your doorstep!" Boy, do I know it. And SHE knows it! The kids asked what that meant, so I explained it to them.

Em: Ewwwww. Boys!
O: They're gonna kiss you so hard you're going to have LIP STAMPS all over you!

J: I'm gonna have to get that gun out...

Bee Sting

Owen got stung by a bee at the lake this weekend. A big black and yellow one. He was screaming and crying so we took him in the cabin to check it out. It was right on his waistline. My mom mixed up the classic baking soda, salt and water combo to ease the pain. After a few minutes he was back under control.

My mom: Do you feel better Owen?
Owen: It still hurts, but I'm ok.
My mom: Do you think you can walk?
Owen: Well, my feet don't hurt.

Daily Scene

Today's conversation from the back of the van:

Owen: I'm older than you, Em. Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah.
Em: Mom, Owen's making fun of me because I'm not as old as him.
Me: That's ok, Em. Someday he'll be OLD before you.
Em: Owen, you're going to be an OLD GRANDPA. Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah.

Daily Scene

So I'm looking at photos of a child of one of my Facebook friends, a friend I haven't seen since I graduated and probably won't see again until our 20 year reunion, and Em is sitting next to me.

Em: Mom, who is that in those pictures?
Me: I don't know.
Em: Then why are you looking them?
Owen: Good one, Em.

I need a hobby. Seriously.

Without Fail...

Oh, the wonder of the car seat. I think it must have magical powers. I love that without fail, tired or just after a nap, the car seat puts Alayna into a deep, deep sleep. No amount of car doors slamming or kid screaming or radio singing can wake her from her slumber. And who can resist a sleeping baby?

My Boy

My boy, Owen, got a haircut today. We started out thinking we were just going to buzz it all off, but somehow we ended up with a mohawk. Seriously. My shy, soft-spoken, calm boy. And I couldn't say no-not to the boy who never asks for anything. Not to the boy who has never picked out his own clothes. Not to the boy who turns red in the face if you even look at him too long. He finally wanted to give his opinion on his appearance. So I let him. And he loves it.

Confession

My children are subject to show tunes, sung by me, on a daily basis. Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Hello Dolly, and Singin' in the Rain, to name a few. I really can't help it. I have no control. Without warning, the songs just come out of my mouth, LOUDLY. Sometimes the kids laugh, and sometimes they look at me like, yep, mom has OFFICIALLY lost it.
