The Second Week of July

This old farmhouse doesn't offer much relief from the heat, so on those hot summer days, we head to the ice cream shop where Emerson works.  Feasting on Blue Moon, Strawberry, and Dole Whip while sitting in the cool air conditioning was a great way to kick off this week!

We have a tradition of taking the kids out to dinner for their birthdays, and this year Alayna chose to go to Mojo's.  She just loves their wings, and we loved the chance to get a little dressed up!

While Nash was at the Elk's golf night with Nana, the big kids and I snuck out to The Agitated Grape for a little karaoke action.

Friday arrived and along with it, my sister and the cousins arrived from Florida!  These kids only get to see each other on rare occasions these days, but they always pick right back up where they left off.  My uncle, Dennis, was also in town from Colorado, and that brought my other two uncles out to the farm with him.  It was a nice night, riding bikes and chasing animals, and no one even complained when Greyson dumped all the girls into the muddy, wet ditch when he was pulling them behind the tractor in a cart.

Saturday morning was an early wake up, and I headed to Elsie for the annual Dairy Dash 5k.  Many of my friends would be running the race, and my friend, Ed, was the race director.  It was a great morning, and so nice to see so many people I hadn't seen since before the pandemic. The rain held off just long enough for the awards to be passed out, and we grabbed a quick picture before the sky opened up and poured on us.

Sundays on the farm are usually laid back, and on the hottest days, it's sometimes hard to coax the animals out into the blazing sunshine.  Sweet Pea, Poppy, and Fern were content to just hang out in their little goat bedroom.

This summer, Monday mornings meant Flint Junior Golf.  Nash and I arrived early and he was off on the course before 8am. I like to watch his group play the last hole from up above!

As an added bonus this week, Nash was awarded a medal for a low score the week prior.  He played really consistently well this year, despite it being the first year he'd been on a golf course.

Back at the farm, we were really settling into summer.  The chicks that were hatched back in April were finally big enough to begin venturing out of the fenced coop area, and they really enjoyed their new freedom and the much bigger yard they could explore.

But wait!  There's more!  Stick around and see what happens next with us!  There's a lot more on the horizon!
