Our Veterans

Thirty Days of Thankfulness, Day 11

There are currently 18.8 million veterans in the United States. That means there are 18.8 million men and women here in the U.S. who have helped to protect our freedom.  3.9 million of these veterans live daily with service-related disabilities.  That means that there are 3.9 million men and women here in the U.S. who have had to change the way they live their lives so that we can live ours as we choose.  In the last 150 years, 1,449,071 military men and women have died defending our country.  That means that 1,449,071 people died so that we may live free.

Today is Veterans Day.  Today is set aside for remembrance and honor and thanks for those who have made personal sacrifices for us as a country.  Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Air Force: the five branches of our military who have defended this great nation.

Each and every one of our veterans share a part in shaping our country.  They are the reason we fly our flags with pride.

Although today is Veterans Day, these men and women should be praised every day.  They left their husbands and wives and children and homes to protect us.  They showed up every day, no matter what, and fought, sometimes to the death, so that we wouldn't have to live in fear.  They are why America is great and always will be.
